Hardware

Custom Bag Hardware: Buckles, Sliders, D-Rings, Feet, Pullers and Magnets

Six hardware groups, each with a size range, material options and a stock-vs-custom note. Custom mould timing is covered in the process section below.

Buckles

Side-release buckles in 20, 25, 38 and 50 mm; POM (acetal) for cold resistance, nylon for cost, zinc alloy for a metal look. Standard on waist packs and dry bags. Custom logo faces need a mould, 10–15 days.
20–50 mm · POM / nylon / zinc

Sliders & Ladder Locks

Strap adjusters sized to the webbing: 20, 25, 38 mm. POM for 25 mm and under, zinc alloy from 38 mm on convertible duffels carrying 8–12 kg. Cam locks hold under load; tri-glides for fixed length.
20–38 mm · Load-matched

D-Rings, O-Rings & Hooks

Zinc alloy or steel, 20–38 mm inner width, swivel snap hooks 25–38 mm for detachable straps on crossbody bags. Finishes: nickel, gunmetal, matte black, light gold; 24–48 h salt-spray tested.
20–38 mm · 4 finishes

Bag Feet & Studs

Dome studs 12–15 mm, 4–6 per base on weekenders and work-gym totes; rubber feet for wet floors on swim bags. Riveted through a 2–3 mm PE base board.
12–15 mm · 4–6 per bag

Zipper Pullers

Metal (zinc alloy, 25–40 mm), moulded rubber or PU with debossed logo, or cord with heat-shrink tube. Logo pullers are the lowest-cost custom hardware: soft PVC mould 7–10 days, usually from 500 pcs.
25–40 mm · Logo mould 7–10 days

Grommets, Eyelets & Magnets

Drawstring eyelets 8–10 mm on drawstring bags, drain grommets 6–8 mm on mesh swim bags, magnetic snaps 14–18 mm on totes, cord locks for 3–5 mm cord.
Eyelets 8–10 mm · Snaps 14–18 mm
Webbing

Custom Bag Accessories: Webbing Widths 20–50 mm, Materials and Uses

Webbing carries the load and most of the visible trim. Width follows the buckle; material follows the bag’s weight and finish. Custom-dyed or jacquard-logo webbing is usually available from 1,000 pcs; stock colours from 300.

20 mm

PP or nylon, 1.0–1.3 mm thick. Compression straps, key clips and adjusters on hydration waist packs and pouches.

Custom hardware

Custom Bag Hardware Moulding Process: 10–15 Days From Drawing to Approved Part

How a logo puller, buckle face or metal badge is tooled. The mould window overlaps the bag sample and the deposit, so on most projects it adds nothing to the shipment date.
Day 0

Hardware drawing

2D drawing in mm with logo vector, part type, material (zinc alloy, POM, soft PVC) and finish. A photo of a reference part plus dimensions is enough to start; see the logo page for badge sizes.
Day 1–3

Mould quote and 3D

Mould cost, part cost and minimum quantity quoted; a 3D render confirms logo depth (1–2 mm relief) and radius before steel is cut.
Day 3–13

Mould making

Steel mould cut and polished: 7–10 days for soft PVC or rubber, 10–15 days for zinc alloy. The bag sample is sewn in the same window with a stock part as a stand-in.
Day 13–15

First shots and plating

T1 samples in the chosen finish (nickel, gunmetal, matte black, light gold). Dimensions checked against the drawing to ±0.2 mm; salt-spray 24–48 h on plated parts.
Approval

Part sign-off

You approve on photos or the physical T1 parts in the sample parcel. One free correction round on logo depth or finish. Approved part is filed under your project code with the golden sample.
Bulk

Hardware production and fitting

Parts run 7–10 days in parallel with fabric; every lot is counted, pull-tested and finish-checked at incoming inspection before it reaches the line.
Soft PVC mould
7–10 days
Zinc alloy mould
10–15 days
Dimension check
±0.2 mm
Mould ownership
Yours, held under project code
Custom hardware usually makes sense from 500–1,000 pcs; under that, a logo puller or a stock part with a woven label reaches the same look. Ask which fits your quantity.
Common problems

Custom Bag Hardware Problems and How the Factory Prevents Them

Six hardware failures behind most warranty returns on sports bags, and the specification or inspection control that removes each one.
Zipper slider splits open under load
Cause: #5 coil on a 40 L duffel opening. Control: #8 minimum on main openings over 30 L, #10 on team duffels; sliders cycled 50 times and pull-tested on every incoming lot.
Buckle cracks in winter
Cause: recycled nylon buckle at −10 °C. Control: POM (acetal) specified on all load-bearing buckles; the supplier’s material data sheet for each batch is filed with the order.
Plating tarnishes within a season
Cause: thin plating on zinc alloy. Control: 24–48 h salt-spray test on plated D-rings, badges and feet; finish compared to the approved T1 part at incoming inspection.
Webbing frays at the cut end
Cause: cold-cut webbing. Control: hot-knife cutting on all PP, polyester and nylon webbing; ends folded and bar-tacked on straps over 25 mm.
Puller falls off after 2 months
Cause: cord puller tied, not crimped. Control: metal crimp or heat-shrink on cord pullers; moulded pullers pinned through the slider, pull-tested at final inspection.
Hardware finish differs between two orders
Cause: different plating lots. Control: approved T1 part kept as a physical reference; repeat orders matched to it, and finish deviation flagged before fitting. See project communication.
