Bag Sample Development Process: Day 0 to Day 7

Seven working days from brief to courier pickup. Each day has one owner and one output; the free sample page tells you what to send on Day 0 so the clock starts on the first email.
Day 0

Brief received

Bag type, five target dimensions in cm, capacity in litres, fabric preference, logo file (AI, PDF or 300 DPI PNG) and a reference photo or tech pack. The RFQ checklist lists the 12 fields; a project manager confirms the fee and the date within 24 hours.
Day 1

Drawing and BOM

A designer returns a 2D drawing with every dimension, a pocket map and a bill of materials naming the fabric supplier, zipper size (#3–#10) and webbing width (20–50 mm). Missing fabric is pulled from the 200+ supplier network; see material sourcing.
Day 2

Pattern and cutting

Pattern pieces are drafted and cut in the production fabric. A mock-up checks that a 30 cm shoe, a 66 cm rolled mat or a 16 in laptop fits the compartment before any seam is sewn.
Day 3–4

Logo and pre-processing

Our Guangzhou team coordinates design, cutting, sewing, printing and packing. Specialist logo or sealed-compartment requirements are reviewed during sampling, with the process and inspection criteria confirmed for your bag. logo and branding.
Day 5–6

Sewing and hardware

The sample is sewn by a sample-room operator on the same machine types as the bulk lines, with the production zippers, buckles and sliders. Straps are load-tested with the bag filled to its rated capacity.
Day 6–7

Check and photos

Dimensions to ±1 cm, logo position to ±3 mm, zipper and seam check. White-background photos and a short video go to you before the bag ships; any change you request here counts as the free revision.

Courier

Bag Prototype Types: First Sample, Revised Sample, Pre-Production Sample, Golden Sample

A bag prototype manufacturer works in four stages. Most orders need two of them; a new structure with custom hardware may need all four. Each stage has a fixed check and a fixed sign-off.

First Sample (Proto)

Revised Sample

The one free revision. Dimension, pocket, hardware or logo changes are made on the same pattern in 3–5 working days; a new fabric or a second colourway is treated as a new sample.

Pre-Production Sample

Cut from the bulk fabric roll after incoming inspection, sewn on the production line. Confirms that bulk fabric, lab dip and hardware lot match the approved sample. Photos within 24 hours.

Golden Sample

The signed-off bag, sealed and hung on the line. Every inline and final check compares to it: dimensions ±1 cm, logo ±3 mm, hardware, packing. See sample approval and golden sample.

Common problems

Custom Bag Sample Problems and How the Sample Room Prevents Them

Six reasons a bag sample gets rejected or misleads the buyer, and the control applied in the sample room to remove each one.
Sample approved, bulk feels different
Cause: sample cut from a substitute fabric. Control: samples are cut from the named production fabric; supplier, GSM and denier are written on the BOM and checked on every bulk roll at incoming inspection.
Sample takes 3 weeks
Cause: incomplete brief and fabric hunting after Day 0. Control: the 12-field brief and a 200+ supplier network keep the window at 5–7 days; out-of-network fabric is flagged on Day 0 with its +7–14 days.
Logo looks right on the sample, wrong in bulk
Cause: logo placed by hand on the sample. Control: position fixed in cm from a reference edge and cut into a jig on Day 3; the jig follows the golden sample to the line for inline checks.
Sample fee lost after ordering

What to send

Custom Bag Sample Request: What the Sample Room Needs on Day 0

A complete brief on Day 0 is the difference between 5 days and 10. Four items cover most projects; a tech pack replaces all four.

Reference and dimensions

A photo of a bag you like plus five target dimensions in cm (length, width, height, strap drop, handle length) and a capacity in litres. Typical starting sizes are on the design and structure page.

Fabric and colour

Fabric family and weight (for example 600D polyester or 2–4 mm neoprene) and a Pantone code or a physical swatch. Lab dips take 5–7 days and run in parallel; see materials and colours.

Logo file and method

Vector AI or PDF, or a PNG at 300 DPI and at least 2,000 px wide, with the preferred method (embroidery, print, patch, label) and position. The logo method guide helps you choose.

Quantity and market

Target first-order quantity from 300 pcs and destination market. This sets hardware grade, packaging and whether the sample should be built to FBA packing spec.
