Where Gym Shower Caddies Fail: and What We Do About It

Three failures, all driven by the load-to-size ratio. Each one is fixed at pattern stage rather than by a heavier fabric.

The hook anchor rips out

One hook carrying 1.5–3 kg of bottles, swung onto a rail 5–10 times a week, tears through a single line of stitching in a month. We anchor the 25 mm hook webbing through a 300–600D reinforcement patch, bar-tack it in an X, and run the webbing down the back panel to the base so the mesh carries none of the load.

The bottles pull the slots open

Elastic slot tops lose tension after 50–100 stretches if the elastic is under-specified, and 500 ml bottles then fall out. We use 20–25 mm knitted elastic on every slot top, size the slots to a stated bottle diameter, and bar-tack each slot divider to the base seam.

It never dries and starts to smell

A caddy with a solid fabric base holds a pool of water under the bottles. We specify an open mesh base or 4 drain grommets, keep the mesh at 150–200 GSM so it stays open under load, and hang the prototype wet to check it dries overnight.
