A racket bag is patterned to the racket, not to a litre figure. Compartment length and depth per racket are the two numbers that decide whether the zip closes over a full load.

Where Racket Bags Fail: and What We Do About It

Racket bags fail on the inside first. All three of these are invisible until the season is under way.

The thermal lining delaminates

A foil laminate glued straight to the shell peels at the fold within 2–3 months of a car boot in summer. We sew the foil-and-foam lining as a separate panel, bind its edges with 20 mm tape, and anchor it to the compartment seams rather than gluing it to the shell.

The zip will not close over a full load

Six rackets with grip tape and dampeners stack thicker than six bare frames. A compartment patterned to bare rackets fails at the zip ends. We pattern at 3–4 cm per racket with a 2–3 cm allowance, fit #8–#10 zips with 2 sliders and bar-tack both ends.

The strap anchors tear on a 12-racket bag

Twelve rackets, shoes and balls put 5–7 kg on two strap anchors that are swung on and off a shoulder 10 times a day. We anchor backpack straps through a 600–1680D reinforcement patch with an X bar-tack, and run the top handle webbing down the back panel.
